This is my personal website. A lot of people know me as D, short for Dawn, short for dawnRadiance. I sometimes call myself gggentooo, too. (If you know me by a different name, cool! You can call me that as well.) My dream is to get to know the world, and get to know myself, as much as I can. So, I made this website to record and share some of my thoughts. 저를 어떤 이름으로 알고 계시나요? 온라인에서 만난 분들이라면 D가 제일 익숙하실 분들이 많을 것 같습니다. 물론 세 글자 이름을 포함해 다른 이름으로 저를 알고 계신 분들도, 혹은 저를 특정한 이름으로 알고 계시지 않은 분들도 똑같이 환영합니다. 이 웹사이트는 특정한 주제를 염두에 두고 만들지는 않았지만, 제가 생각하기에 의미 있는 주제에 관해 제가 했던 생각들이나 나눈 대화들을 정리해 올리는 것이 주가 될 것 같습니다. 자유롭게 둘러봐 주세요! 언어에 관련해서는 아래 단락의 내용을 참고해 주세요.

'인터넷의 국경은 언어다' 라는 말에 동의하시나요? 인터넷은 결국 정보를 공유하기 위한 도구이고, 아무리 공유된 정보에 자유롭게 접근할 수 있더라도 그 내용을 이해하지 못하면 의미가 없어진다고 생각합니다. 따라서 기계 번역이 존재함에도 인터넷 상에서는 자연스레 같은 언어를 사용하는 사람들끼리의 집단이 형성됩니다. (적어도 제가 관찰한 바는 그렇습니다.) * 당연히, 같은 언어를 사용하는 사람들이 인터넷 상에서 모두 하나의 집단 아래 활동한다는 의미가 아닙니다. 한 집단 안에서 여러 언어가 통용되는 경우가 아주 적다는 의미입니다. 오프라인에서도 다를 건 없지만, 물리적인 한계로 애초에 서로 언어가 통하지 않는 사람들끼리 만나는 경우가 더 드뭅니다. 운 좋게도 저는 편하게 사용할 수 있는 언어가 두 개 이상입니다. 덕분에 온/오프라인 환경 모두에서, 다양한 언어를 사용하는 사람들과 이야기하며 다양한 관계를 쌓을 수 있었습니다. 아래의 On language 문단에도 간략히 서술되어 있지만, 저는 언어를 단순히 생각을 담는 틀로 여기지 않습니다. 언어는 사람들이 모여서 서로에게 생각을 공유하기 위해 만들어 낸 도구이고, 그 도구를 만든 사람들이 가진 생각, 즉 필요에 따라 기능이 전부 다르니까요. 때문에 같은 사람이 같은 주제에 관해 말하더라도, 한국어로 말한 내용과 영어로 말한 내용이 완전히 다를 수 있다고 생각합니다. 경험상 저는 그랬고, 앞으로도 그럴 것 같습니다. 원래 말하고자 했던 주제로 돌아오자면, 이 웹사이트에 도달한 분들 중에는 제가 사용하는 언어 중 하나 이상에 익숙치 않은 분들도 많을 것이라 예상합니다. 제가 작성하는 모든 내용에 대해, 원문의 언어와 다른 언어로의 번역을 제공해 드리지 않을 확률이 높습니다. 서로 다른 언어간의 완벽한 번역은 불가능할 뿐더러, 애초에 한국어를 주로 사용하는 사람들과 영어를 주로 사용하는 사람들이 공감하기 쉬운 내용도 다르니까요. 그리고 저는 한 주제에 대해 한 언어로 글을 작성하고 다른 주제에 대해선 다른 언어로 글을 작성하는 경우가 많습니다. 다만 저는 스스로가 만족할 만한 완성도로 생각을 새롭게 정리하는 게 어려울 뿐입니다. 어떠한 언어를 주로 사용하지 않는 분들께는 제 생각을 공유하지 않겠다는 의도가 아님을 확실히 말씀드리고 싶습니다. 여유가 된다면 최대한 다양한 언어로 여러 이야기를 하고 싶습니다. 그리고, 여러 이야기를 듣고 싶습니다! 저와 나누고 싶은 이야기가 있다면, 언제든 위의 주소로 이메일 부탁드립니다. 건강하세요!
I do not believe in translation. Languages are tools made by different groups of people to share thoughts across each other, within those groups. Every group of people is unique, and therefore every language is based on their unique ideas; which is in turn why I believe it is impossible to perfectly translate a message from one language to another, while fully retaining its originally intended meaning. Semantic space is a concept I learned while exploring toki pona. While toki pona is a conlang, semantic space lies at the basis of all languages, both natural and constructed. This "space" defines the border that differentiates one concept from another-- while the concepts may stay the same, the words that tell them apart are not the same across different languages. On a different note, I believe an idea is barely half complete if you keep it only to yourself. I want to present my thoughts and creations to as many people as possible, because I know that those other people-- with different viewpoints than mine-- are people who can teach me, and help me achieve my dream of getting to know the world. It's why I made this website in the first place. Plus, I might be helping them get to know the world, as well! Therefore, I'll try my best to "translate" my writings, if I can. "translate", as in rewrite the same idea using different semantic blocks, from a different language. But of course, as I've (hopefully) made it clear, some concepts may be easy to convey through one language, but very difficult or even impossible to accurately describe in another. As such, in conclusion: I encourage you to learn and read through every written idea-- not just mine, but all-- in its original language, even if a "translation" is provided. You'll be able to learn something entirely new, I promise!
I try my best to keep my creations accessible to everyone. The same applies to this website. However, there may be some elements that I've overlooked which make it hard for you to understand my ideas as presented on this website. If that's the case, I apologize.
